Melbourne; a muse.

Fri Nov 28, 2008, 12:27 AM
So I've moved to Melbourne recently. Some people call it the artistic capital of Australia. In some ways it lives up to its reputation although I'm not sure if that's the result of a self fulfilling prophecy or a more organic evolution. In any case Melbourne's given me many opportunities to take photo's of the kind I aspire to. People in Melbourne, by virtue of their city's reputation, seem very comfortable with people taking their photo. I wonder if they wonder if the guy with the camera is just another artist getting in their way as they try to cross the street. Or, are they glad to be reminded that they live in the artistic capital?

The Second

The latest few deviations I've been uploading are from a recent trip to S.E. Asia; Thailand, Laos and Cambodia specifically. An awesome trip with so many opportunities for breathtaking shots. My burgeoning amatureness of course meant that a few of these were lost, but I did manage to pull a couple off that have shown me what can happen when you get it right.

I'm still using a Canon A1. I'm getting to really like that camera. Could it be that my affection for my gear is proportional to the success of my efforts? I do know the value of a decent lens. That simple upgrade has made a huge difference. There's so much more I want to do with my 35mm but I think the reality of processing is becoming a real hindrance. The lure of pure RAW from a 40D directly to my PC grows stronger everyday.

I'm lucky enough that Nonie continues to let me shoot her allowing me to learn so much. Especially about setting a shot up as opposed to the candidness I'm used to. Nonie's expressive talent provides such broad scope bringing otherwise ordinary pictures to life. Where would we be without a pliable muse?

Be well,

The Shallow End

Ok, so I've finally got around to setting up my deviant site properly. My decision to do so is a desire to store my achievements somewhere relevant, somewhere amongst like minds.

This is an absolute beginning for me. I have only recently acquired a camera (A Canon A1, it's about 30 years old and has almost no electronics) and am just now shooting with intent to capture.

Having browsed dA for a short time I'm hoping that inclusion will help me develop some sort of artistic outlet nurtured by those trying to do the same. I'm looking for critique, I'm looking for support, I'm looking for inspiration. So if your reading this I hope you can help guide me on my way.
